Cookies & Similar Technologies Policy

Keeping Your Data Secure

We think it's important for you to understand how cookies and other similar technologies are used by Chill and our partners. We have provided this cookie policy to tell you more about why we use cookies and other similar identifying technologies, the types of cookies and similar technologies we use, and your choices in relation to these technologies. In this policy we use the term “cookies” to refer to cookies and other similar technologies covered by the EU Privacy and Electronic Communications Directive (e-Privacy).

Cookies and what they do

Cookies are text files containing small amounts of information which are downloaded to your device when you visit a website. Some cookies are only placed on your device for the time you are browsing the website. Others may be stored on your device and sent back to the originating website on each subsequent visit, or to another website that recognises that cookie. Cookies are useful because they allow a website to recognise a user’s device.

Cookies are commonly used by websites to remember some aspect of your current or previous visit. This could include things like the choices you’ve made or preferences you’ve chosen during your visit. Websites commonly do this in order to improve or tailor your current and future visits to that site or other related sites.

They are stored in your browser’s cache and allow a website or a third party to recognise your browser. Most browsers support cookies but you can configure your computer or mobile device browser's settings locally to reflect your preference to accept or reject cookies, including how to handle third-party cookies (see Accepting, deleting, and how to turn off cookies section below).

By continuing to browse the site, you are agreeing to our use of cookies.

Chill Insurance and cookies / Purpose

Our policy is to use cookies only to improve the way we do business with you or when they’re essential to the way our website works. Where possible, we have ensured to not collect your personal data. However some performance and functional cookies required for providing quotes will use personal data which you have entered. In addition, advertising and targeting cookies use profiling in some cases.

The types of activities we may use cookies for are to:

  • Store details that help you to manage accounts and policies online, such as user login details.
  • Find out how people use our sites, such as how often they visit, which pages they go to, and which links they click on, so that we can improve our sites.
  • Help us to provide relevant information, such as details of products, services and other information that you may be interested in.
  • Store information about which media players you use so that any video content appears correctly.

We use cookies to:

  • Collect information that will help us to distinguish visitors, to understand visitors’ browsing habits on our website and to improve their experience.
  • Compile statistical reports on website activity e.g. numbers of visitors and the pages they visit.
  • Collect information that will allow us to tailor advertising to make it more relevant for you, based on your previous interactions with our website.
  • Remember information about you when you visit our site. Some of the cookies are essential in order to provide our services to you.
  • Maintain the security, safety, and integrity of our website.

Categories of cookies

Below, we have set out the four categories of cookies that we use on our website and what they are used for. These cookies are:

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in or filling in forms. You can set your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, but some parts of the site will not then work. These cookies do not store any personally identifiable information.

Functional Cookies

These cookies enable the website to provide enhanced functionality and personalisation. They may be set by us or by third party providers whose services we have added to our pages. If you do not allow these cookies then some or all of these services may not function properly.

Performance Cookies

These cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our site. They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the site. All information these cookies collect is aggregated and therefore anonymous. If you do not allow these cookies we will not know when you have visited our site and will not be able to monitor its performance.

Targeting Cookies

These cookies may be set through our site by our advertising partners. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites. They do not store directly personal information, but are based on uniquely identifying your browser and internet device. If you do not allow these cookies, you will experience less targeted advertising.

Other Similar Technologies

In addition to cookies, there are other similar technologies used on Chill’s website.

  • SOCIAL WIDGETS: These are buttons or icons provided by third-party social media providers that allow you to interact with those social media services when you view a web page. These social widgets may collect browsing data, which may be received by the third party that provided the widget, and are controlled by the third parties. These social media providers may also work with Chill for analytics or for marketing purposes and each has their own privacy policy to be aware of;
  • WEB BEACONS (PIXELS): These are tiny graphics with a unique identifier that are used to understand browsing activity. In contrast to cookies, which are stored on a user's computer hard drive, web beacons (pixels) are rendered invisibly on web pages when you open a page.
  • UTM CODES: These are strings that can appear in a URL (the “Uniform Resource Locator”, which is typically the http or https address entered to go to a web page) when a user moves from one web page or website to another, where the string can represent information about browsing, such as which advertisement, page, or publisher sent the user to the receiving website.
  • APPLICATION SDKS: These are mobile application third-party software development kits that are embedded within the application. These SDKs permit the collection of information about the application itself, activity in the application, and the device the application is running on.
  • LOCAL STORAGE: These are sets of data that can be stored on your browser by a site or application. They can be used to maintain preferences, a history of usage, or even the state or settings of a site or an application.

Chill use these technologies to do things like help us see what features are most popular and create a more personalised experience.

These technologies can retrieve certain information about your browser and device such as: operating system, browser type, device type and version, referring website, website visited, IP address, and other similar information.

You can find more information about the individual cookies we use and the purposes for which we use them in the table at the foot of this policy:

Your browser will let you choose whether to accept browser cookies. And you may even be able to choose or limit the use of cookies and other similar technologies. But these technologies are an important part of how our services work, so removing or rejecting cookies, or limiting the use of other similar technologies could affect the availability and functionality of our services. There is some guidance you may find helpful contained in the following section.
